Beware of the Man-Bunny

Happy halloween.

It's a shame that a bloke can no longer dress up as a white rabbit and play tea parties with children without us cynically wondering whether he has a current blue card. I wonder if children are any safer in this climate of moral panic. The only people who seem to be having a good time of it are the suburban vigilantes, tabloid media and fear-mongering politicians.

I often wonder about the Western obsession with children. Recently a report was published claiming that major department stores are trafficing in "Corporate Porn". While I think that some images of children in advertising are kind of porny the ones that they showed were of kids -all girls -just sitting around. They could be construed to look sexual- if you are a total paranoid freak. One of the photos was taken by a mother of her own child -it was a candid shot taken down at a jetty. I'm suspicious of the fact that all these photos were girls. Are girl children not allowed to display any feelings of enjoyment, relaxation, or fun? If they all wore burquas perhaps they would be safe from peadophiles.

That man bunny reminds me of Catweasel. I liked Catweasel.

shannon- i agree it is sad to see little girls being ornamental and objectified instead of just running around and being themselves - if you can't enjoy that when you a 5 years old because you are frocked up and idealised what hope is there?! catweasel was my fave tv show because he could do magic and was also a luddite- very wary of electrickery as he called it.
